Tips for Saving Money on a Remodel

Home remodeling projects, whether small like a visit one of your favorite Denver sofas stores or large like a complete kitchen remodel, require some financial sacrifice, in most cases, a sacrifice that eventually becomes more substantial than initially planned. However, there are numerous ways to reduce the costs and to stay within the budget – here are a few:

  • Increase the efficiency of your kitchen space without knocking out walls – getting custom cabinets with space-saving shelves, pull-out drawers and multiple, pull-out countertops is a cheaper way to expand space than to remove and then rebuild walls;
  • Restore old items instead of buying new – old cabinets and work surfaces can be easily restored with a sander and some paint. You can try to restore your own old items or, if they are beyond repair, you can visit recycling centers or garage sales to get lightly-used items to refresh and upgrade;
  • Do not relocate plumbing and power outlets – moving the sink or the tub from one side of the other is very costly and not always necessary, so try to avoid relocating utilities as much as you can;
  • Find cheap alternatives to expensive, high-end materials – laminate floors and engineered wood boards can be just as attractive as natural hardwood, but for a fraction of the price of wood, while bead board is a great, cheap replacement for tile.
